Burlingame, California

Stealth-mode social networking/web services company focused on overlay social actions to bring traffic to web site partners. Wide range of entrepreneurial responsibilities including conducting user research, creating the user experience/user interface, crafting investor and customer presentations, developing financial projects, submitting intellectual property, managing contractors, developing marketing plans, and coding basic web site. Helped transition the company to new business models based on fast moving user needs and prevalent technologies. (Consulting client of Inventures, see below.)

Mill Valley, California

Consumer products company making media storage systems (photos, cd's, etc.) for the specialty retail market. Raised capital from private investors, developed product line, established tooling and production resources in China, and created brand identity in print and on the web. Marketed the product line and sold to stores domestically and in Japan (Friends, Zinc Details, Mxyplyzyk, Tokyu Hands, Loft, etc.).

Consulting firm centered around entrepreneurial services including user research, strategic planning, design, product development, production, importing, intellectual property, sales/marketing, and fulfillment. Consulting clients include Target, Camelbak, Austin Mini, Dogopolis, and Kao & Company. In addition to consulting, a platform for development of licensing (Camelbak, Pennzoil),venture opportunities (Imago, Brand New Partners), and services to start-ups (JackNyfe, Loom).

San Francisco, California

As director, led a forty person, multi-disciplinary product design studio with primary activities in strategic direction, business development, financial performance, staffing, project management, and corporate representation. Studio disciplines included user research, industrial and interaction design, mechanical and electrical engineering, and concept prototyping. Accomplishments included renovation and design of San Francisco port pier to new office space, and directing an award winning light switch concept project featured in the Museum of Modern Art New York. Clients included Kodak, Apple, Whirlpool, Hughes Aircraft, Steelcase, 3M, BCA, Dell, Stryker, Humphrey Instruments, Nellcor Puritan Bennett, Avocet, Casio, and NEC.

San Francisco, California

Teach a course on business and entrepreneurship which covers the commercialization process from concept to production, including intellectual property, sales/marketing, and business issues. Teach both foundation classes and advanced product design courses and overall responsibility for freshmen/sophmore student body.

Osaka, Japan

As the first foreign designer in a design team with over 300 members, responsibilities included international design of vacuum cleaners, coffee makers, and assorted kitchen and home appliances. Developed a conversational level of Japanese.

New York, New York

Primarily responsible for deep research and industrial design of a bed warming system for premature infants used in NICU's. Activities included hospital observations, interviews, analysis of data, and industrial design concepts.

Los Angeles, California

For this small consultant of consumer products, activities were focused around developing oven proposals for Dacor and Thermador, and fan and lighting products for Casablanca.
